In the summer of 1880, John Muir, one of America's best known naturalists, was preparing to set out on a journey through Alaska. Joined by a companion, Rev. S.H. Young, and a half-wild, little black dog named Stickeen, theirs was an adventure which Muir would call "the most memorable of all my days." And of the dog, Muir wrote: "To me Stickeen is immortal." First published in 1897, the story has become an American classic.
